NICK REAL ESTATE, accommodating also Tycoon Travel and nestling in the block between soi 6 and 7 on Jomtien Beach Road, employs only Thai staff. I am the founder and owner Jirachote Kaewsathean (universally known as Nick). I started the business nine years ago and now specialise in selling choice land and properties in the Pratumnak, Jomtien and Ban Saray areas. There's a total staff of 14 including a small detachment to run the associated travel agency and internet surf shop. We are really a partnership and see each of the businesses as interlocking, in any case, it was my experience in the hotel and travel agency business, dealing with Europeans, which gave me the confidence to launch into real estate.

Nick's was the first commercial agent to start selling land in the Pratumnak hill area of the resort which has now become a number one prime spot for investors. The reality these days is that most of Pratumnak has been sold or transferred, so the next boom is going to be Ban Saray. We have just recently sold hundred of million bahts' worth of land and tours principally to Europeans. The attraction of Ban Saray, of course, is that it's still a fishermen's village, still tranquil yet only a few minutes drive from downtown Pattaya.

And after that? Koh Lan is now a very good investment opportunity following major projects undertaken by city hall. New roads and pavements, investment in clean water technology and no shortage of electricity generation are all combining to make Koh Lan a dream destination in the making.I believe that there will be a determined effort to prevent Koh Lan becoming environmentally despoiled which is what has happened to Pattaya. The model we need is Singapore which is a city state of skyscrapers but wonderfully clean and environmentally friendly. There they plant at least one tree for every one they cut down. This green and environmentally friendly policy is one we sorely need on the eastern seaboard now.

The warm smiles and self assurance of all the staff of Nick Real Estate have brought the dividend of distinguished success to the business. But it's by no means pot luck. The company has a policy, for example, of sending each worker on a meditation and self‑awareness course for one week in every year. Yes, we are involved in material matters,but it's vitally important to maintain serenity and to go on self‑improving in accordance with Buddhist teachings. I couldn't help wondering how many more Pattaya businesses would benefit from such an enlightened leadership. It has been described as a 'passion' to become better as a person. The policy is reflected in the after sales service. Even after a deal is signed and delivered, and there's no legal obligation on Nick Real Estate to get involved further, this company has an ever‑open door to help with any problems and assist in their resolution. Our motto is 'We specialise in results not promises' and you have only to ask around to discover that these are not empty words. There are customers who bought six or seven years ago yet maintain a friendly and open relationship with the staff.

Customer care is a lifetime commitment not just a matter of getting people to sign on the dotted line, thus, we don't recommend any particular lawyer of our own for company registration unless the customer really wants us to.

Like most successful business people, I personally don't have a 1ot of leisure time. I read a lot to develop my mind and I enjoy classical music both Thai and European. Although I spend a great deal of time with foreigners interested in real estate. I am extremely proud to be Thai and I am absolutely confident that my personal way forward is through the continuance of self‑improvement in body and mind working in harmony. So if you ever you believed that being a successful property dealer was incompatible with strong spirituality, you would be very wide of the mark indeed.
